Kaiser Under Investigation for Alleged Unlawful Sharing of Patient Health Records

Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP has launched an investigation into managed-care group Kaiser Permanente for allegedly sharing patient health records with third-party debt collectors.

Kaiser Permanente operates 39 hospitals and more than 700 medical offices, with over 300,000 personnel, including more than 87,000 physicians and nurses.

Kaiser’s alleged practice of providing patient records to third-party debt collection services, such as Optum360, may violate state and federal laws, including California’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act.
